gerda stevenson on lorna j. waite
Lorna was luminous, powerful, brave yet humble, with a touching vulnerability. A remarkable woman, whose being somehow embodied the cultural strata of this richly diverse small nation we inhabit, and whose work we should all know about.

My eye will twinkle at strangers, be patient
For the sight of the two shooting stars,
Over the blue gate of Brownsbank, the sky
Luminous with old stories and the blazetrail
Of dazzling words, your radiant point
From ‘Shooting Stars’
These poems by Lorna J. Waite were written during or soon after her residency in September 2011 at Hugh MacDiarmid’s cottage, Brownsbank, near Biggar. The poetry is preceded by a foreword in her own words: her application for that Brownsbank residency. A Main Point Books coproduction with Taproot Press.
‘Lorna was luminous, powerful, brave yet humble, with a touching vulnerability. A remarkable woman, whose being somehow embodied the cultural strata of this richly diverse small nation we inhabit, and whose work we should all know about.’
